Carlo Boszhard returns to the musical stage with 'Moulin Rouge!'
After a long break from the musical stage, Carlo Boszhard is finally returning with a new show: 'Moulin Rouge!'. He plays one of the leading roles in the grand musical spectacle, based on the Oscar-winning film.
"In a few years, I play the old Zidler, a man in his seventies," says Boszhard. "I thought that was doable. I can already make myself up in."
The 54-year-old actor is no stranger to musicals. He previously played in shows such as 'Miss Saigon', 'Les Misérables', 'The Lion King' and 'Hello, Dolly!'. However, 'Moulin Rouge!' is a special project for him, especially because he was rejected for the show several times in the past.
"I had applied for the role of Christian, the male lead, in the past," Boszhard reveals. "Then I was too young for that. Then I auditioned again, but then I didn't make it either. Then I thought: that's not going to happen anymore. And now I thought: I'm going to give it one more try. And then it did work!"
Boszhard is very enthusiastic about his new role. "It is a very beautiful role, a wonderful role to play," he says. "And it's a great show, with beautiful music and beautiful costumes. I really think this is going to be a great success."
'Moulin Rouge!' will premiere in the Netherlands on September 29, 2023. The musical will be performed in the AFAS Live in Amsterdam. Tickets are now on sale.
